New Zealand-born triathlete Matt Reed has won an elite triathlon series in the United States after tasting victory in the final race in Dallas.
Reed, who switched allegiance and competed for the US in last year's Olympic Games, won the US Open triathlon Dallas title on Sunday.
The 32-year-old claimed the series crown that has been worn three times by Greg Bennett since its inception, outsprinting the Australian in a classic finish.
"There's no better feeling than to take the series and win the last race," Reed said. "Greg's one of the best in the world. If I beat Greg, that puts me in his category."
Colorado-based Reed and Bennett headed home New Zealand veteran Bevan Docherty, who was third, just 23 seconds behind the winning time of one hour 51 minutes 3 seconds.
Reed claims a US$20,000 ($27,700) prize for the race and another US$20,000 for the series title.
Swedish Olympian Lisa Norden defended her women's Dallas title in 2hr 01min 44sec, outsprinting American runner-up Sarah Haskins.
New Zealand's Nicky Samuels was eighth.
