SYDNEY - New Zealand surfer Paige Hareb's dream run in the world tour opener came to an end in the semifinals on the Gold Coast today.
Hareb, 18, was beaten in the first semi by defending world champion Stephanie Gilmore of Australia to end an impressive world tour debut in the Roxy Pro Gold Coast.
Gilmore showed her class, scoring 16.33 points to Hareb's 12.16.
The Australian applied the pressure with a daunting 9.33 score on her third wave, and 7.00 on her seventh.
Hareb's best effort from her four scoring waves was 7.83 on her third.
