KEY POINTS:
The Warwickshire connection to the New Zealand team strengthened on two fronts yesterday.
Central Districts coach Dermot Reeve, a longtime teammate of new coach Andy Moles at the English county, joined the support staff as bowling coach for the two Twenty20 internationals against the West Indies later this week.
And former New Zealand batsman Mark Greatbatch, who did a two-year stint as director of coaching at Warwickshire before parting company from the county last year, has been appointed an adviser to the national selectors.
Had former South African speedster Alan Donald not turned down the job of New Zealand bowling coach, it would have provided a further link to the county.
Greatbatch's job, which was advertised, will involve watching plenty of domestic cricket and monitoring progress of players pushing for national selection.
However he'll be absent for part of the State Shield programme, along with national selector Dion Nash, contesting a beach cricket tournament in Queensland.
National panel manager Glenn Turner is looking forward to Greatbatch providing a fresh pair of eyes, and being based in Napier, he will help with the geographical spread alongside Turner, who lives in Wanaka, Christchurch-domiciled John Wright and Auckland-based Nash.
