KEY POINTS:
New Zealand teenager Jason Christie picked up his first World Cup track cycling medal in Melbourne this morning (NZtime).
Christie, 17, from Tinwald in South Canterbury, finished third in the final of the 15km men's scratch race on the second day of finals at the meet.
This followed his impressive fourth placing in the points race final on the first day.
Christie was part of a 12-strong group that put a lap on the field before Hong Kong's Ho Ting Kwok stole a second lap on the leading bunch.
Christie held out in a sprint finish to finish third.
Earlier, the New Zealand quartet of Jason Allen, Shane Archbold, Darren Shea and Tom Scully finished fourth in the team pursuit.
They were fourth fastest in qualifying in the morning with a slick four minutes, 10.189 seconds effort and met Ukraine in the bronze medal ride-off.
New Zealand could not quite replicate their qualifying performance as Ukraine took third place with Australia winning the gold from Spain.
Simon Van Velthoven (Palmerston North) made it through to the second round of the men's kierin competition, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the final.
The national kierin champion was third in his heat and sent through after placing third in the repechage.
Natasha Hansen was knocked out in the B semifinals of the women's sprint. She qualified 11th fastest in 11.847sec and was third in the quarterfinal before being edged by Hong Kong's Wai Sze in the semifinal.
Invercargill's Eddie Dawkins finished ninth in the kilo time trial while Auckland's Malindi MacLean did not finish the final of the points race after a fall.
The meet was to end tonight.
