KEY POINTS:
Two-time world Supercross champion Chad Reed dominated at today's debut of the Super X Championship, wining the 20-lap final at a wet and windy Perth Motorplex.
In blustery conditions that made for difficult racing, Reed recovered from a minor crash in his heat to dominate the 19-man field in the final.
Australian Supercross champion Daniel Reardon, who is now based in the US, was the best of the rest, finishing well behind Reed in second place, with Jay Marmont snaring third spot.
Reed sent a scare through his camp on lap five of the second heat when he over committed on a sharp corner and came off his bike.
But the 26-year-old New South Welshman had already built such a big lead that nobody was able to overtake him.
WA Motocross champion Michael Addison was the hard luck story of the day; the home-town hero crashing badly on lap four of the first heat.
Addison lay exposed on the track for almost 10 seconds before medical staff moved him away from danger.
Jake Moss overcame a broken wrist to take out the Pro Lites category, with his twin brother Matt Moss finishing second and Tye Simmonds third.
But the day belonged to Reed, who took just four laps in the final before starting to lap the rest of the field.
The series now moves to Adelaide on October 18, with the city of churches set to unveil the Super Sprint format.
Super X - the Australasian Supercross Championships - was set up by Reed and Global Action Sports chief Mike Porra with the aim of giving Australian riders a stepping stone into the tough US competitions.
