KEY POINTS:
Peter Fulton provided a captain's knock but Australia A defeated New Zealand A by eight wickets at Chennai to move into the one-day cricket tri-series final.
New Zealand needed a substantial win to claim their place in Friday's decider against India, having defeated the Australians in their opening game before two defeats to the hosts.
Fulton won the toss but lost both openers for just two runs in each of the first two overs of the innings.
The Black Caps right-hander led a fight-back attempt with 65, putting on 97 with Greg Hay (36) for the third wicket.
But Australian all-rounder Cameron White checked their progress, removing Fulton in the 23rd over for the first of his four wickets for 32.
From 99 for two, New Zealand were dumped to 144 within 38 overs.
Australia also lost an opener early, with Michael Mason removing Manawatu-born left-hander Luke Ronchi in the second over.
But one-day batsman David Hussey scored 78 to guide his team to 145 by the 25th over, captain White striking an unbeaten 22 to finish.
