Lakes District Health Board has apologised to a woman whose miscarried foetus was flushed down a toilet at Rotorua Hospital.
The devastated 21-year-old earlier this month told the Rotorua Daily Post she was denyed the the opportunity to bury it with members of her family.
She described watching a hospital worker flush the toilet and asking her "Did you just flush my baby down the toilet?"
Sue Wilkie, Lakes District Health Board (DHB) communications officer, confirmed an investigation into the incident had been carried out.
"The DHB very much regrets the distress suffered by this patient and her family, and has offered a sincere apology. As part of the investigation into the situation, the DHB has been able to identify improvements for the future," Miss Wilkie said in a statement.
