Three hurt in SH33 head-on crash

Three people have been hurt in a serious head-on crash on State Highway 33 at Paengaroa.

The crash happened at 5.30 pm.

One male initially trapped in their car had to be extracted by fire crews.

Police said he was listed as Status 1, with life threatening injuries.

Two other males involved were listed as Status 2, with serious but not life threatening injuries.

State Highway 33 is fully blocked at this time.

Diversions have been put in place at State Highway 33/Maniatutu Road and State Highway 33 and State Highway 2.

Inspector Tony Wakelin has asked for patience from motorists.

Emergency Services will be working to clear the highway as soon as is possible but there will be lengthy delays until the scene is clear.
