The Auckland Racing Club is defending its decision to ban BYO booze at this year's Boxing Day Races.
The ARC will still run licensed bars at Ellerslie, but Auckland Racing Club Chief Executive, Chris Weaver, says they aren't allowing people to bring their own alcohol, because of problems in the past with drunken and dangerous behaviour.
He says last year, a person tried to drive their car onto the track to race the horses, which was "only one of a number of incidents".
The decision is not about money-making, he told Newstalk ZB, it's about creating a safe environment.
