A probe into a government insurance agency's use of private investigators has been expanded to looking into the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's use of the services.
State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes this month unveiled the details of an inquiry into reports Southern Response hired contractors from Thompson and Clark Investigations to spy on Canterbury earthquake damage claimants.
At the time, he asked those leading the inquest to also look at whether MBIE's relationship with Thompson and Clark needed a look-in.
On Tuesday, Hughes confirmed the investigation would cover the ministry as well.
"Questions have been raised about MBIE's relationship with Thompson and Clark and this inquiry will now seek to answer those questions," he said.
