A Wellington woman who burnt her toddler's hands with boiling water and then failed to seek medical treatment for months has been jailed.
In the Wellington District Court this morning, the woman, whose name is suppressed, was sent to prison for five years, Radio New Zealand reported.
Earlier this year a jury found her guilty of hurting her 18-month-old son and then failing to get medical help.
By the time authorities discovered the boy's injures, months later, the his fingers had fused together and he needed an operation.
The case has been a long running one - the woman first appeared in court three years ago.
