A man is still in a critical condition after a serious assault in Shannon on Tuesday night.
Police said the 30-year-old was assaulted on the corner of Stafford and Vogel Streets about 10:50pm on Tuesday.
He was initially taken to Palmerston North Hospital but later was transferred to Wellington Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Detective Sergeant Peter Vine said he believed the man knew his attackers who left him seriously injured on the side of the road.
Mr Vine said the offenders left the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle.
