A dog who attacked an elderly woman while she was riding a mobility scooter has been put down.
A 77-year-old woman was left traumatised this month after a neapolitan mastiff scaled a two metre high fence and pulled her from the scooter, before biting her.
Gisborne District Council animal control manager Steve Greaves says the 25-year-old owner surrendered the dog after she was served with a legal summons on Friday.
The owner could have faced a hefty fine or been banned from owning a dog for five years, if she had been convicted.
