Labour MP Sue Moroney has accused Bill English of cementing his role as the "Minister of Arrogance" with his latest flare-up over a proposal to extend paid parental leave.
English said yesterday his party would veto the bill, which would increase paid parental leave from 14 weeks to 26.
The contempt English shows for Kiwi parents and the issues they face "knows no bounds", says Moroney.
"To say the country can't afford it is a bit rich coming from the same person who can find $2 billion a year for tax cuts for the top 10 per cent of income earners, $100 million in fees to investment banks to prepare the sell-down of our state-owned assets, and $50 million to 'progress' a cycleway that, from all accounts, is going nowhere," she said.
English's description of the proposal as "some little bill designed to win votes" is absurd, said Moroney.
