An Air Force plane carrying 12 passengers and 20,000 pounds of fuel made an emergency landing in Auckland this afternoon after smoke was spotted in the cockpit.
Fire northern communications shift manager Colin Underdown said fire services were called to Whenuapai Air Base in West Auckland after the plane made an emergency landing about 3.15pm.
"We got a call to a plane coming in with 12 persons on board, and there was smoke in the cockpit, and that the aircraft had landed. We went there to investigate, and there was no fire.''
Fire, police and ambulance services at the scene were stood down once it was established there was no fire.
He said there were no reported injuries or damage to the plane.
