Motorists have been advised to avoid driving through the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville this afternoon after a water main burst at the intersection of Johnsonville and Broderick roads.
Wellington City Council contractors are working at the scene to repair the break - but there will be severe traffic disruption due to the fact that Johnsonville Road has been reduced to one lane northbound.
Traffic is also unable to turn into Broderick Road.
Motorists are advised to use the Newlands or Churton Park interchanges off State Highway 1 or to access Johnsonville via the Ngaio Gorge and Khandallah.
