A man is dead after a car crashed into a light pole in Auckland this morning.
The crash happened about 9am on Great South Road in Papatoetoe, police said.
Two passengers were trapped when emergency services arrived. The condition of one of the passengers deteriorated rapidly and he died a short time after they arrived.
The serious crash unit examined the scene and the road has been re-opened.
