Search and rescue teams are scouring the Firth of Thames coastline in the Coromandel after a woman failed to return from a swim last night.
The 43-year-old woman has not been seen since she went swimming at a beach in Te Puru, about 11km north of Thames on the Thames Coast Road, about 7.20pm, police spokesman Tony Sasso said.
Search and rescue teams failed to find the woman last night and about 20 to 30 personnel resumed the search at first light today.
The woman is described as a European of medium build with short blonde hair and glasses.
She was last seen wearing a dark blue-black rash suit and pale blue board shorts, and was carrying a white towel.
Thames police are appealing to the public to report any sightings of the woman or her belongings.
