The roof of a building in the west Auckland suburb of Westmere has collapsed onto the footpath.
Firefighters were called to the corner of Wellpark Ave and Garnet Rd about 12.30pm to find the roof archway and awning lying on the footpath.
Ambulance officers were called but sent back when it was established no one was hurt.
A local worker said the crash was violent, shaking the building he was in.
He said Garnet Road had a high level of foot traffic and it was lucky no-one was under the awning when it fell.
The Fire Service said it was not yet known why the roof collapsed but Auckland Council building inspectors were inspecting the site.
