After less than two months in office, Auckland's elected officials are looking to bump up their pay - with the deputy mayor hoping to get another $40,000 a year.
Today the council recommended how an extra $200,000 should be divvied up among them.
The decision is subject to approval from the Remuneration Authority - the independent body which determines councillors' pay.
The funds were set aside before the election for the council to allocate once the responsibilities of individual members were decided upon.
If the council has its way, deputy mayor Penny Hulse will get an extra $40,000 a year, bringing her pay up to $120,000.
Chairpersons of council committees now hope to receive $96,000 a year, a $16,000 increase from their current salary and the remaining 14 councillors are looking to add $8,000 to their $80,000 a year.
