Tranz Metro services in Wellington are now running again after a mechanical issue on a train to Paraparaumu caused disruptions this afternoon.
The 12.30pm service to Paraparaumu was halted just north of Wellington by an issue with its pantograph - the equipment which transfers power from the overhead lines to the train itself.
Power needed to be turned off on all lines to address the issue, which impacted on all services in and out of the capital. The power was restored at around 1.45pm and the train returned to Wellington. About 40 passengers on board were transferred onto the next train north to Paraparaumu.
Scheduled services out of Wellington were operating again from 2pm.
