A 22-year-old Wellington man was flown to hospital this morning with facial injuries after he was struck by a crane boom while unloading a truck.
Westpac rescue helicopter crewman Colin Larsen said the incident occurred near the Paraparaumu landfill, north of Wellington, about 9.15am.
"We understand that the injured man was assisting the unloading of a truck when its crane became jammed," Mr Larsen said.
"As he went to investigate further the crane boom freed itself, striking him in the head."
The man was taken to the Wellington Hospital emergency department, where he was undergoing treatment for his facial injuries.
