A 62-year-old Dunedin man is dead after being pinned between two trucks as he talked to a driver this morning.
Acting Senior Sergeant Chris McLellan said the "tragic accident" happened at Company Bay, 14km northwest of central Dunedin, about 8am.
Two trucks which were clearing land in the area were parked up and the man, who lived nearby, was talking to their drivers.
He said the elderly man was walking between the trucks when one rolled forward and pinned him against the other.
Witnesses, the drivers and the victim's family were being counselled, Mr McLellan said.
"It's just a very tragic accident," he said.
Several investigations are now underway to find out why the truck did not remain stationary.
