A 17-year-old man has been charged over a stabbing in central Wellington overnight.
A man celebrating his 21st birthday suffered a cut to hand in the Courtenay Place assault.
Inspector Paul Jermy, of police central communications, said police received three 111 calls about the 1am incident and were on the scene in less than a minute.
They found the suspect nearby and caught him after a short chase.
The teenager will appear in Wellington District Court next Wednesday, charged with unlawful possession of a knife and assault with a weapon.
