The family of a Timaru man who died after being hit by a bus in London has set up a trust to help bring his body home.
Daniel Tiplady, 24, was left in a coma after he was struck by the bus in Shepherds Bush, West London, on March 28 while returning home from watching the Oxford-Cambridge boat race.
He died from his injuries Saturday with his parents, Maureen and Kevin, who flew to the United Kingdom after the accident, at his bedside.
The family was working with the New Zealand Consulate in London and "The Daniel Tiplady Trust" account was being set up to help with the substantial cost of bringing Mr Tiplady home, the Timaru Daily Herald reported.
People could donate to it at the ANZ bank from this afternoon.
Mr Tiplady's death has shocked Timaru residents.
John Hogue, principal of his high school Roncalli College, said the entire community would be feeling the impact.
Mr Tiplady was an engineer who had been working in Britain while on his OE.
