HELLO CHARLIE
Australian designer Charlie Brown has opened a glamorous new boutique on Nuffield St in Newmarket, in addition to her concession store inside the iconic Smith & Caughey's store. In the window when we visited recently? The striped floppy hats that Lady Gaga wore when she visited Sydney last month, customised by cutting out a square for her eyes.
CULTURE CLUB
Expect the beautiful and hip to be out in force at Reasons to Be Pretty, a play opening in Auckland tonight.
Described by the Guardian as "theatre for people who think they don't like theatre", the play looks at society's fixation on physical beauty, and features young performers Andrew Munro, Dwayne Cameron, Nicola Vuleta and Delaney Tabron (also the creative director of No magazine). 8pm, August 17-27, Basement Theatre, tickets from www.iTicket.co.nz or (09) 361 1000.
GOOD SHOES
Oh Marni, we love you so. Designer Consuelo Castiglioni is known for her solid, clompy heels that sometimes verge into orthopaedic territory - statement heels that are easy to walk in.
Much like these suede platform sandals, which would do a very good job of hoisting up the wearer. They're $825, from Scotties Boutique, ph (09) 366 1664.
