Emma Bidois has worked as the national sales manager for fashion label Moochi for five years, a job that requires her to "keep my fingers in all the pies". A typical day for Bidois involves everything from running the retail team, planning marketing initiatives, tracking budgets - and getting to wear Moochi every day. "It's exciting, there is never a dull moment and always an opportunity to improve," says Bidois, who is working with the rest of the Moochi team on refurbishing the High St store.
She's always been drawn to fashion, working in the industry since leaving high school. "After opting out of a 'sensible' degree I decided to take a risk and took a job working in retail - it was the best move I could have made and I've been perfecting my craft for the past 11 years since."
Her sartorial style is obviously influenced by Moochi's signature casual aesthetic. "I always try to keep my look effortless, simple and natural. I love dressing-down outfits with a pair of Chuck Taylors. Casual cool is my motto."
Who are your favourite designers?
Stella McCartney - I love her silhouettes and shapes, I also like her stance on animal welfare. Marc Jacobs; his brand is captivating, he can basically do no wrong, can he? Lover, for the tailoring and fabrication. And Moochi, because it's timeless and versatile. One of the perks of my job is that I get to wear it every day.
Favourite place to hang out and people watch?
The Mighty Mighty when I'm visiting Wellington, or when I'm in Auckland, Bonita bar on a Friday night and Dizengoff on a Saturday morning.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
A pair of Marc Jacobs boots. They have a hard edge about them which I like.
What is your biggest indulgence/guilty pleasure?
We always have a case of Veuve Clicquot at home. French Champagne is my indulgence, I find any excuse to have a glass.
Who or what inspires you?
Personal inspiration comes from travel. I recently went to Rio de Janeiro for a holiday - the colours, the music and beaches were definitely inspiring. Professional inspiration comes from reading a lot of books; my latest inspiration comes from a book called The Tipping Point, it's a must-read if you're in sales and marketing.
Your favourite accessory?
My Luella bag; it goes with me everywhere.
What's the one thing everyone should have in their wardrobe?
Good quality basics. Invest in a black slip, a great pair of tights, layering singlets and tops. Pay a bit extra for quality fabrics and you won't regret it. I would be lost without my viscose Moochi slips.
What endures throughout the seasons?
Havaiana's because they work with any budget and are so comfortable, you find yourself literally wearing them anywhere.
What do you really want this coming season?
I'm on the hunt for a denim jacket; I'm looking forward to styling it with all my dresses.
Your favourite shop?
Moochi, Superette, Black Box Boutique and Homage.
Your best beauty tip?
www.gonative.co.nz sells organic beauty products, my favourite is the pure shea butter from Africa as a moisturiser, and it is only $25 for 500 grams, which is an absolute bargain.
What can't you live without?
My M.A.C. makeup. I recently discovered M.A.C. prep and prime which makes your lashes twice as long.
Best trend of this season?
Blazers - I can't get enough of them, cropped or boxy. They are super-functional and look hot, dressed up or down.
If money were no option?
Cars make the best fashion accessories so I'd buy a vintage Aston Martin. I have a weak spot for European cars.
The one rule you always dress by?
A size label is a guideline not a truth! The fit is more important.
Sitting pretty
