Restaurants are asking patrons to voluntarily add two dollars to their bill for charity.
Dine Aid is a nine-week initiative between New Zealand's restaurant and hospitality industry, which starts on November 1.
All the money raised will be divided between the City Mission, Foundation for Youth Development and Middlemore's Kidz First Children's Hospital.
Co-founder Rob Cooke says 150 restaurants are taking part, and they are hoping to raise more than $200,000. He says the idea was first established in London in 1998, where more than $9 million has since been raised for charity through the programme.
