KEY POINTS:
The glamorous gal-pals from Sex and the City could be packing their swanky shoes and swapping New York for New Zealand, according to one of the stars of the hit TV series and movie.
It has been widely reported Cynthia Nixon, who plays lawyer Miranda Hobbes, told media at an awards lunch in New York that part or all of Sex and the City 2 could be filmed in New Zealand.
There is speculation the rumour-plagued sequel will feature a storyline about a "Downunder billionaire", based on Australian media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, who will play a love interest to one of the leading ladies.
But New Zealanders hoping to catch Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and
Miranda sipping Cosmopolitans in Kiwi bars sometime this summer,
shouldn't hold their breath. Contract negotiations between the actresses and Warner Brothers studio have yet to be finalised.
"We don't know if it's coming up. We're in negotiations. I'm very
hopeful, but certainly nothing is for sure. I don't think anyone's deals are done," Nixon said.
It has been reported that issues over the actresses' salaries held up production of the first Sex and the City movie, which has gone on to
gross more than $400 million since its May release.
New Zealand fashion queen Denise L'Estrange-Corbet welcomed the news
and said she hoped the production would give Kiwi women a "kick up the arse" over their sense of style.
"I think it would be fantastic if they come here. People will start dressing up when they go shopping on High St because they'll think they're going to run into Carrie Bradshaw," said the World owner and
designer.
"It would be such a coup - and it would really piss the Aussies off no end."
L'Estrange-Corbet would love to meet fashion icon Sarah-Jessica Parker,
who plays Carrie Bradshaw, if filming goes ahead.
"We'll talk about our fabulousness together," she said. "It'll be great, as long as we don't have to see the actresses dressed in stubbies and jandals."
