A Waikato man who stole Canterbury earthquake relief charity boxes before leading police on a chase has been jailed for a year.
Shanon Mackey, 25, was sentenced at the Hamilton District Court to 12 months' imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 12 months, The Waikato Times newspaper reported.
The father-of-three stole two World Vision Canterbury earthquake appeal charity boxes, valued at $300, from a Waikato liquor store in April.
He was pursued by police and arrested.
Mackey was convicted of burglary, shoplifting, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
