Ports of Auckland says its container wharves will be hit by looming 24-hour strike, but its general wharves on the Manukau and Waitemata Harbours will continue to operate.
Yesterday MUNZ, the Maritime Union of NZ, confirmed strike action at the Ports of Auckland for December 2 and 3.
The port company said any strike action would involve around 265 union members, affecting container terminal stevedoring, road, rail, shuttle and engineering services.
Along with the general wharves, the marine services division would continue to operate.
Union Local 13 president Denis Carlisle said about 300 workers would withdraw labour for 24 hours starting at 10.59pm on December 2.
The union wants an eight-hour stopwork meeting to work through outstanding issues with its employment agreement. The port company offered two three-hour stopwork meetings.
Ports of Auckland managing director Jens Madsen said the company would like to continue the conversation with the union and speak directly with its membership.
Negotiations had continued over the past two years, and involved a series of mediation sessions as well as a facilitated bargaining process.
