Te Puke High School
Rugby
TPHS 1st XV got off to a cracking start in their match against Papamoa College, with two nice tries from the backs in the first 15 minutes. But Papamoa slowly clawed their way back into the game through the middle stages and went into the last 10 minutes with a small lead. Te Puke piled on the pressure and were rewarded with a try to be within a point with three minutes on the clock. Te Puke secured the kick-off and marched down to Papamoa's 22 and made the most of their opportunities with a try in the corner to win 29-24.
The girls' 1st XV had a tough battle with Rotorua Girls'. Te Puke girls dominated for the majority of the match and held on to win 32-27. The 2nd XV boys' had a tough home game against Trident High School 2nd XV, losing 27-15. It was a similar situation for the U15s. Playing a strong Whakatane High School team, they had plenty of opportunities to score, but just couldn't quite find the line when down the right end of the field. Final score 29-12 to Whakatane High School.
It has been a great week for TPHS football. The girls' 1st XI took on Bethlehem College Belles and played some great attacking football, dominating the Bethlehem team in both defence and attack to win 7-0.
The Junior A boys also carried on their winning ways, playing attacking football right to the end of the game in a 11-3 win over Bethlehem College Milan. TPHS 2nd XI also had a win, beating Otumoetai College Red 5-1 but the Junior B Boys unfortunately couldn't keep the winning streak going, losing to TBC England 4-2 in tight game.
Hockey
TPHS boys' 1st XI played Papamoa Boys 1st XI, the other unbeaten team. Te Puke had most of the possession but took a while to settle. Papamoa made some good breakaways but, while they had a few shots on goal, they were not able to convert. Te Puke's penalty corners worked well with all four resulting in goals. Some clinical finishing by Cody Taylor-Holmes rewarded the hard work done in the midfield. Final score 8-0 to Te Puke.
The girls' 1st XI also had an impressive win, coming out of the blocks early with two quick goals. They continued the strong attack and finished up with a 5-0 win over Otumoetai 3rd XI.
The girls' 2nd XI had a good win 8-0 over TGC junior B, and the boys' 2nd XI lost 1-0 to Mt Maunganui Development.
Bethlehem College
Basketball
A quiet mid-week schedule for BC junior and senior teams due to byes. Our Senior B girls' won by default, while our Senior A boys' played Otumoetai Senior A. This was a closely contested game. The teams were equal at quarter time at 19-19. The game remained close up until the 3rd quarter, when BC was down by only seven with Scott Hill out for the second half due to an injury. In the final spell, the opponents went on a blitz that saw our side falter to an 80-66 loss.

Football
1st XI Girls drew 2-all with Whakatane. It was evenly matched first half, with Emma Waddell scoring the first goal. A misplaced own goal by the opposition in the second half took BC to 2 nil. This resulted in a strong comeback from their opponents with two goals. Boys 1st XI had a close match with United only to allow a single goal on an errant pass. BC Barcelona playing in the Hillsdene Tournament, lost their two matches at Waipuna Park 6-0 to Hamilton Boys and St Paul's 1-0.
At the IGA Schools Gymsport Festival, top placings were Mauguerite Johansson 4th in Open Junior Rythmic, Madeleine Cunliffe 1st in Open Junior WAG, and Liana Lamberth 2nd in Open Senior Tumbling.

Otumoetai College
Hockey
The boys' 1st XI displayed both strong defensive play and relentless attack in their 7-0 win over Mount Maunganui College 1st XI in the last round of Division 1 college hockey. Otumoetai secured two penalty corners within the first 10 minutes, Jack Dey converting the second to give Otumoetai a 1-0 lead. A second goal came from a series of well-executed passes, starting at the back. The Mount defended well, keeping out another four penalty corners in the first half. Callum Jones scored, then Luke Tisch and Jack twice more.
Otumoetai Greens came up against a strong TGC team. Our Otumoetai team has no specialist goalkeeper and many of the girls had not played soccer before, so it was a huge learning experience. Goalkeeping was rotated between three players, Katelyn Smith, Aroha Schuurmans and Kayla Dawson. The first goal went to Otumoetai Green player Kharma Tolley about fifteen minutes into the second half. TGC then equalised within 30 minutes. Otumoetai had another four chances to score, one shot by Jade Wardrope hitting the post. TGC had two penalties close to the goal on full time. Zara Marshall, central defender, saved a certain goal with a high chest block. Player of the day was Naomi for a determined effort in the midfield.
Rugby
First XV managed a courageous 30-24 win over a much improved Whakatane HS for a bonus point victory. Six Year 10 players were included in this fixture due to the high number of injured players. Our next game is against Opotiki in Opotiki, always a challenging scenario.

New Zealand water polo rep Bae Fountain, 15
Mount Maunganui College's 2015 Senior Sports Boy Justin Pickering and 2015 Junior Sports Boy Bae Fountain have been selected in the New Zealand under 18 water polo team for 2016.
Justin was selected as one of the field players and Bae is one of two goalies selected for the team. Bae at only 15 years of age has the potential to be in this team for another two years. This is an outstanding achievement for both boys who have previously represented New Zealand.
The boys will compete in the 2016 FINA Worlds Men's Youth Water Polo Championships held in Podgorica, Montenegro from August 26 to September 3.

Football
Tauranga Boys' College hosted the Hillsdene trophy again with 13 Year 9-10 teams entered from around the North Island. After making their way through pool play, the boys faced Hamilton Boys' High School in the semifinal. A 1-all draw at full time saw the boys head to penalty shootout, unfortunately losing 8-7.
We played Palmerston North Boys' High School in the bronze playoff and won this game. The final between defending champions Westlake and Hamilton BHS was a 1-0 win.
TBC Senior A stepped on to the court against Bethlehem College in just their third school league grade of the season. Throughout the game several of BC's senior players stepped up and we were able to take the game easily in the end. BC fought hard throughout the game and showed a lot of heart to keep playing as hard as they could. As a team, we were unhappy with the performance and will look to train hard to strengthen the weaknesses, but it is only early in the season.
Aquinas College
Cross country
Aquinas College came home from the Waikato/BOP Secondary School Cross Country Championships with a smattering of top-three placings. The best individual performance of the day went to Connor Farrell who ran a superb race to close for third place in the U14 boys' event which earned him selection in the regional team to compete in the National Secondary School Cross Country Championships later in June.
Aquinas also scored two third placings in the U14 and U16 three-man events, thanks to the efforts of Connor, Angus Riordan, and Adam Fowler in the U14 boys' event, and to Sam O'Connor, James Johnston and George Catto in the U16 boys' race.
Aquinas took 12 runners across to the Agrodome circuit in Rotorua to compete against runners from the wider geographical region. Angus Riordan joined Connor for the U14 boys' event and finished seventh. Also racing in this category was Adam Fowler.
The U16 Boys race saw six runners from Aquinas compete. Sam O'Connor was the first Aquinas runner home in 12th place, closely followed by James Johnston in 20th and George Catto in 22nd place. The other notable performance was from Zach Rawson in seventh place in the senior boys race.
