Hockey
The Boys' Hockey Xl are in Christchurch at the India Shield and have got off to a great start. Against a strong Christchurch Boys' team, we started with a good 1-1 draw with Matt Davis scoring. The next two key games were both won. Against Otago Boys' we had to defend for most of the first half until, just before the interval, Garrick du Toit produced a powerful drag flick from a penalty corner. The second half was even until Otago equalised. Andy Fuller restored our lead midway through the second half. In the final minutes, Garrick again scored from a penalty corner to make the final score 3-1. The last pool play game against Western Heights produced another determined performance and the team raced away to a 4-0 lead with two goals each from Matt Davis and Garrick du Toit. Two more goals in the second half to Simon Fraser-McKenzie and Josh Evans ensured a comfortable 6-2 victory. The girls' Xl at the Federation Cup have managed a win, draw and a loss in pool play and have narrowly missed out on the top eight play-offs.
Rugby Congratulations to Diardu Terblanche, Nick Adams, Chris Johnston and Thomas Allen, who have made the final squad of the U18 BOP rep team.
Basketball
In an exciting game, BC Senior A Boys beat Tauranga Boys' Senior A Boys 89 to 84, which is their first win for several years over Tga Boys'. The BC Boys started slowly against the previously undefeated team and trailed 10 points in the first quarter. In the second quarter BC began to put defensive pressure on and created some good turnovers and transition baskets. Scott Hill, Nic Adams and Jarrad Hawes drove to the basket to keep BC in touch. Matt Nicholson and Chris Finlayson played strong defensive games, making some crucial rebounds. With the bench playing their part with great enthusiasm, BC took the lead with three minutes to go. However, Tga Boys' clawed back to even the score before BC held their nerve and pulled away to win 89-85 at fulltime.
