The shakedown round is over. The fifth and final game in the first round of the Habourside premier competition was played outdoors on Thursday.
While some teams battled to stay in their grades others fought hard for a spot in a higher division.
Only one point separates the top two teams Logo Tech and Maheatataka in division one.
Logo Tech, looking for their fourth win, were disappointed after Tauranga Sports Cornerstone defaulted due to injuries and illness. However Logo Tech, with a bonus point for a close score during the round, head the table with 17 points from Maheatataka on 16, who had their fourth win.
At the bottom, Mount Sport One were faced with beating Maheatataka to stay in the top division. A strong final spell by Mount Sports One was not enough to close the gap on last year's champions who ran out clear winners 60-45. For Maheatataka it was their best first round result. Bev Southee said it was the shake-down round and team combinations were building. The newcomers to the top division are Cavaliers who will meet Logo Tech first up. Cavaliers coach Leisa Hart said her talented team was ready for the challenge of playing in the first division.
