Katikati College brothers Caleb and Joeb Ibbotson spent part of their April school holidays playing inline hockey for New Zealand at the Oceania Championship in Moe, Australia, from April 8-12.
It was the third year Caleb had represented New Zealand in the sport as goalkeeper, after previously playing in the US. He was part of the experienced under-17 team that played the best-of-five games against a skilled Australian team. Caleb's team came away with two wins and won the silver medal.
Younger brother Joeb was playing his first year for New Zealand. His under-14 team played an outstanding tournament to win four of their five games, coming home with the gold medal. Only the under-14 boys and junior women won gold for New Zealand. The tournament and cup was won by Australia.
The Ibbotson boys played well with Joeb scoring two goals.
The tournament will be held in Hawaii next year so both boys will be working hard to hold their positions in their teams.
