Two of Tauranga's young leaders felt like politicians when they were introduced to Prime Minister John Key yesterday.
The students' selection to represent Tauranga as members of the Youth Parliament started on a high note when they met Mr Key at a Mills Reef lunch meeting.
Tauranga Boys' College head boy Mungo Mason will represent MP Simon Bridges and Emily McCarthy, of Tauranga Girls' College, will speak on behalf of MP Tony Ryall at the Youth Parliament in July.
The pair were announced as the city's National youth representatives last week.
"He's really charismatic and seems like a really nice, genuine guy," Mr Mason said.
