Book lovers are being offered the chance to snap up some written treasures and plenty of other bargains at Tauranga Rotary Club's 32rd annual book sale this weekend.
Club spokesman Richard Speed said the sale was the main yearly fundraiser for the club with all proceeds going to charities andgood causes, local including Waipuna Hospice and Tauranga Community Foodbank.
Some of the funds raised also supported international charities and emergency disaster relief efforts in the Pacific, he said.
The three-day sale is being held in a Seeka cool store in Harvard Way, opposite Classic Flyers. It starts Fridayat 4pm and finishes for the day at 9pm.
The sale also runs from 9 am to 4.30pm Saturday and on Sunday.
Speed said this year there were 80,000 books and about 5000 other items including CDs, DVDs and records, and also a small garage sale of items of some value.
Among the donations was a large collection of books from a deceased estate, which includes several prized art books being sold at a significantly discounted price, he said.
"There is sure to be something for everyone, with plenty of great bargains too," he said.
Speed said it was estimated that the local community had benefited to the tune of more than $1m since the first annual fundraiser began.
One of the highlights of the sale was having well-known author Tommy Kapai Wilson reading children books to young shoppers on Friday night from about 7pm, he said.
