A woman has been arrested after allegedly chaining herself to a chair and gate while protesting mining in Karangahake Gorge.
Protest group Protect Karangahake said in a statement that a woman was arrested and charged with obstruction at a protest on Monday.
The woman allegedly chained herself to the gate on conservation land to block the mining vehicles from getting to the mine site.
Police confirmed the arrest and charge. A spokeswoman said there were about 12 protesters at the scene and no one else was arrested.
"Police attended at 8.50am following a call from members of the public and spent over an hour at the scene talking to protestors and explaining the situation to them," the spokeswoman said.
