Firefighters are battling a house fire in Welcome Bay and nearby residents have been advised to close their windows.

Emergency services were called to Waikite Rd about 12.24pm, Fire and Emergency Northern Communications Centre shift manager Joshua Pennefather said.

Three fire trucks attended.

“When we arrived, it was well involved.”

The fire had spread down the back of the family home, which was unoccupied, and the burnt grass had been extinguished, Pennefather said.

The fire was ongoing, and an investigator was on location to determine the cause of the blaze.

Nearby residents should close windows to reduce smoke inhalation and avoid the area until the fire is controlled.

No injuries to the firefighters were reported.
