This afternoon New Zealand take on South Africa in a top of Group A clash in the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup in Mount Maunganui.
The game starts at 2pm, with both sides equal on four points with two wins from two.
Bay Oval Trust general manager Kelvin Jones was hopeful any bad weather would pass through before then.
If there was a bit of rain in the morning, Jones said Bay Oval's outfield had been the best draining ground in the country and he was optimistic the cricket would go ahead as planned.
"We've got no issues on that side of things here. We've shown we're a venue that gets cricket under way."
He said it was a big game for New Zealand today, probably the most important of the tournament so far.
"It's an opportunity for New Zealand to finish top of their group and go through to the quarter-finals and obviously play a slightly lesser or slightly easier opposition.
"It would be really nice to see New Zealanders get down here and support the guys, who are going pretty well with a couple of good wins."
It was also the last chance for locals until the final on February 3 to watch Under 19 Cricket World Cup action at Bay Oval.
Lauren Watson, organiser of Compressport Mount Festival of Multisport, said registrations for this weekend's events were done months in advance so any bad weather would not affect participant numbers.
"We're not actually too concerned, we are keeping an eye on it, but I think it's going to be absolutely fine."
She said rain might affect spectators a little bit but supporters of the Port of Tauranga Half were a loyal group.
"So it's got to be pretty bad for it to affect them, which it looks like it's not going to be."
Watson was expecting thousands of spectators at the festival, which includes the Port of Tauranga Half, the Under Armour Mount Run, the Enduro and the Höpt Soda Aqua Bike.
More than 1400 competitors were registered to take part.
Meanwhile, the start of next week looked wet with a possibility of rain developing on Monday and into Tuesday.
MetService was monitoring a weather system coming in and there could be heavy rain on both days.
It asked people to stay up to date with forecasts before planning outdoor activities.
The rain would ease off by Wednesday.
