Team James are closing in on having half the money they need to get James Reid to America for a life-changing operation and are fundraising again - this time by walking 50km.
Five-year-old James suffers from quadriplegia cerebral palsy. He also has hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and epilepsy.
Thanks to the support of the Tauranga community donations on James' Givealittle page have reached nearly $60,000 to help him on his way to get an operation called selective percutaneous myofascial lengthening. This would avoid further contractures (stiffness of his muscles and tendons), and reduce the need for more surgeries in the future.
His family have estimated they need $150,000 for the trip.
James' mother Sonja Reid said the walk was due to take place on Sunday, May 17, with about 50 people walking from Papamoa East to Mount Maunganui, around the base of the Mount twice and back to Papamoa East.
