The full Takitimu Drive side of the Waikareao Estuary pathway has reopened after repairs, the NZ Transport Agency said.

NZTA system manager Rob Campbell said the seawall had been reinforced and repairs had been carried out on the path and bridge supports.

"We're happy to have the path open to the public again and we'd like to thank people for their patience during this work," Campbell said.

There may be more work on the path later this year if another layer was required on the path.

Campbell said the path would be monitored to see if the existing material settled before a decision about whether a final surface should be applied

A section of the path had to be closed following damage from a storm and king tide which hit Tauranga in early January 2018.

It was temporarily repaired and reopened earlier this year but the latest closure, which began in late July, was for more permanent repairs.
