The standard of art on exhibition at ArtWaikino this year was exceptional.
Coromandel MP Scott Simpson, who opened the annual art competition, said the local talent on show impressed him and just showed what depth there was in the art and craft community on the Coromandel.
With more than 330 pieces of artwork the judges had a hard task to choose the winners in each category.
Moyra Turner (glass artist of Paeroa) won the handcraft section of Art Waikino with her Fused Glass Wall Hanging.
Judging the paintings, craft and sculpture were brother and sister Mike and Mischelle O'Donnell, both successful artists in their own particular field. Mike O'Donnell of Tarariki Pottery is an artist and environmentalist who works with clay.
His sister Mischelle is a well known painter, known for her use of bold colours and big canvas work.
Photography judge Geoffrey H. Short is Auckland-based artist and photographer and is the director of PhotoForum Inc.
