A woman suffering a serious medical event at Waihi Beach has been flown to Tauranga Hospital.
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to the beach on Sunday to pick up the 61-year-old local woman.
She was stabilised by at the scene by medics before being flown to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition.
Later in the day, around 5.30pm, the rescue helicopter was tasked to transfer a 75-year-old cardiac patient to Waikato Hospital.
