Two people have been seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in the Lower Kaimai Range, one patient is in a critical condition.
A police communication spokeswoman said a report of the crash on State Highway 29 came in about 8.35pm and one person was trapped inside the vehicle for a time.
She said ambulance and Fire and Emergency New Zealand staff attended the crash which happened between Thorne Rd and Pori Pori Rd.
The police spokeswoman said two people were inside the car when it crashed and one person suffered critical injuries and the other sustained serious injuries.
She said the stretch of highway between McLaren Falls Rd and Omanawa Rd was closed to traffic while the Serious Crash Unit investigated
