A two-vehicle crash in Paengaroa last night has resulted in the arrest of one person after they allegedly got into an altercation with another person and then left the scene.

A police communication spokeswoman said the crash happened at 10.53pm on State Highway 33 between Tauranga and Rotorua, resulting in minor injuries to one person.

The two people got into a confrontation and one person allegedly left the crash scene, but was later found by police and arrested, and was in custody last night, she said.

The spokeswoman said it was not known what charges they would face.

Police and emergency services also attended a single-vehicle crash in Welcome Bay Rd at 5.10pm last night after a car hit a power pole bringing down the pole and some lines.

The car ended up in a ditch on the side of the road, and although St John Ambulance attended there were no reports of injuries to the driver, the police spokeswoman said.

Mount Maunganui firefighters also attended and assisted with traffic management.

Greerton Fire Brigade responded to a small gas leak in Cameron Rd, Tauranga at 9.19pm last night after a parked truck was found to be leaking nitrous oxide.

The attending firefighters isolated the leak and located the driver, a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said.
