Emergency services are still at the scene of a crash involving two truck and trailer units on SH29 on the Kaimai Range, which left one driver injured and the road blocked.

The crash happened near Hanga Rd just shy of the Kaimai Summit and was reported to police at 2.10pm.

Head of Western Bay road policing Senior Sergeant Mark Pakes said early indications are that one of the trucks which was passing the other has clicked the back of other vehicle.

Both trucks, which were heading up the Kaimai Range at the time, have veered off the road and the left-hand lane is currently blocked, he said.

Pakes said he expected the road to be partially blocked for the next couple of hours to enable the damaged trucks to be removed and to completely clear the crash scene.

One of the two male drivers suffered minor injuries, and he has been taken to Tauranga Hospital for a check-up, he said.

Pakes said given there was "pretty decent" damages to the injured driver's truck, it was possible he had knocked his head.

The other driver was unhurt although there was also damage to his truck, he said.

Pakes said while the traffic was still moving around the crash scene, police were only allowing two cars to do so at time and motorists were urged to avoid the area if possible.
