A freight train became stuck in the Kaimai Tunnel this morning, prompting a police call out.
The train got stuck just inside the Hemopo end of the tunnel just before 11am and the driver onboard was able to walk out.
A police spokeswoman said mechanics were called to clear the train.
A KiwiRail spokesman said a freight train travelling north through the tunnel suffered a fault which resulted in the train losing air pressure and locking the brakes on.
"The driver, who was the sole crew member, has secured the train and walked out of the tunnel."
