Traffic is backing up after a two-car crash in central Tauranga.

A police spokesman said officers were responding to reports of a crash between two cars at the intersection of 11th Ave and Edgecumbe Rd.

"Initial information from the caller was that there were no injuries, but there is debris on the road and traffic was backing up," he said.

A caller to the Bay of Plenty Times said one car was smashed up in the middle of the road.
