Tauranga Cake Decorators Guild's president Christine Willoughby said the demonstration day was a great success.
The most passionate cake decorators are getting a taste of the best today with award winning displays and international demonstrators on show.
More than 70 people turned up for the Tauranga Cake Decorators Guild's demonstration day today at Wesley Church.
The delicate arrangements on display appeared to be flowers however upon closer inspection reflected the hours of icing craft that had gone into them.
Award winning cake decorator, Tauranga Cake Decorators Guild's president and international demonstrator Christine Willoughby said the day was a great success and thanked the organising committee.
In another of the break-out demonstration rooms, New Plymouth's Wendy Harland demonstrated the Magnolia Soulangeana, the challenge for the national competition.
Mrs Willoughby hoped the demonstration would encourage more keen decorators to enter the national competition, of which she is a judge.
Tauranga was home to a lot of talent in the cake decorating world, Mrs Willoughby said.
"Tauranga often tends to lead the way, we're quite innovative. People go away and learn and come back and share what they've learnt."
Mrs Willoughby founded the Tauranga Cake Decorators Guild in 1994 and has seen it grow from strength to strength, now with more than 40 members.
Over the 20 years the techniques had changed and the equipment had improved but the women, and the occasional man, were still as passionate as ever.
